Solution!

If at first you don’t succeed, keep trying! It seems the old adage indeed works. We realised that all the paper based solutions for packaging our macarons we were experimenting with were not going to work and so designed a thermoform to fit inside our boxes and protect the macarons.

The prototype came through the other day and we have been testing it again with Royal Mail. So far 100% success; multiple postings and not a single cracked macaron. Also it can be made with 100% recycled PET (a material called rPET) which is really important for us because all our packaging is recyclable and this needs to be too.

The downside is that the tooling costs are eye-watering! However, you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs and if we want to ship unbroken macarons then we need that tooling – there goes our Christmas bonus . . .
